Climate change and alternative energy are increasingly
prevalent topics in today’s society. We are constantly
bombarded with information about global warming and the
consumption of non-renewable resources. The threat is real;
however, separating facts from assumptions is a daunting task.
This course will focus on the science behind climate change and
explore ways we can reduce our carbon footprint through the use
of alternative energy sources.
This course will engage participants to understand the
natural trends in climate change over geologic history;
investigate the parameters and assumptions involved in climate
prediction; explore alternative energy sources such as wind,
solar, nuclear, and natural gas; learn about electric vehicle
technology; and outline
energy conservation practices.
Field experiences will include site visits to the following
facilities: wind turbine, hydro-electric, geothermal and
biomass. |
