Geology of Northeast Pennsylvania
 

July 11-16, 2010

Grades 7-12

Available Options: Act 48 Hours; 3 NEIU-19 CPE Credits; 3 Wilkes University Graduate Education Credits; or 3 Keystone College Undergraduate Credits.

Northeast Pennsylvania's landscape records hundreds of millions of years of Earth history. This course focuses on the essential skills and knowledge needed to begin to understand geologic processes, grasp the expanse of geologic time, and unravel Earth's history. Local geology and hands-on activities are emphasized throughout the week. Two days are dedicated to field trips to sites of geological interest. Key topics will include: geologic reasoning, mineral and rock classification, sedimentary processes, weathering, erosion, plate tectonics, glaciations, landforms, and deep time.
